Kids are Headed Back to School - Weight Loss Opportunity?
Back to school time can be hectic for everyone, make sure you get the exercise you need to stay healthy during this busy time.
Weight Loss Tips:
* Walk your children to and/or from school
This works well for so many different reasons. You increase the number of calories burned, you spend more time with your kids, and you save money on gas and wear and tear on your vehicle. If your schedule and proximity to school allow (and your kids are game), this is the way to go, at least a couple times a week.
* Start a new, healthier family game night
In our fast paced lives, many families try to set aside one night per week, or every other week, to spend with one another. Unfortunately, these nights are often spent around the television with pizza, pop, and associated diet killers. Start things slow by making some healthy snack choices,
and when everyone is ready, introduce some activity. Some ideas we have tried in our family include: cartoon tag (saying the name of a cartoon character protects you from being tagged), frisbee, volleyball, and various races. Taking the kids to the park while Mom and Dad play tennis has been enjoyable for everyone as well.
* Take one month off from dining out
Sound Impossible? You can do it, and both your body and your budget will thank you for it. Work, school, practices, recitals, and housework make fast food seem like the reasonable choice, but when you add up the tempting empty calories and the financial expenditure, a dinner at home sounds pretty good, too! If time constraints are such that dinners at home are too much work for you right now, consider a healthy meal provider such as Medifast:
